The Bed (and How to Make It!)
1965, dir. Joseph W. Sarno
“She made her bed... now she'll lie in it!”
The perpetually flirtatious Ellen (Francine Ashley) has been kicked out of boarding school and thrown out of her home. With nowhere else to go, she takes a job as a maid at her alcoholic aunt Connie’s (Patricia McNeil) hotel, only to be lured back into the sort of unscrupulous carnal escapades that got her into this mess to begin with.
The very first film ever produced by Distribpix, Joseph W. Sarno’s The Bed (and How to Make It!) epitomizes the filmmaker’s acclaimed noirish visual aesthetic and predilection for downbeat melodrama that earned him the nickname, “the Ingmar Bergman of Sexploitation.”
