Wakefield Poole’s Moving!

1974, dir. Wakefield Poole

“From the creator of Boys in the Sand and Bijou…”

In the wake of the box office failure of his softcore epic Bible!, Wakefield Poole returned to his roots with this trio of short vignettes centered around moving. In House for Rent, Casey Donovan (Boys in the Sand) has a fantasy of a rough scene with iconic leatherman Val Martin (Born to Raise Hell) while touring a house in Los Angeles. Then, in Room for Rent, two lovers (Curt Gerard and Burt Eduoards) check into a motel and wind down from a day of travel. The film ends with the most notorious sequence of Poole’s career in Apartment for Rent, in which a young man (Tom Wright) has an intense S/M encounter with the man in the life-size Chuck Arnett drawing (Peter Fisk) he finds in his new apartment. Taken all together, Moving! is a breezy yet substantial anthology from one of the masters of all-male erotica.
