Joy

1977, dir. Joel Bender (as Harley Mansfield)

“…where you least expect it!”

When virginal teenybopper Joy (Sharon Mitchell) is assaulted by a trio of burglars, she finds herself in an unexpected predicament: she wants more! Unsatisfied by her prudish and inexperienced boyfriend (Jay Pierce), Joy sets out across Manhattan to seduce any and every man that comes in her way, unwittingly setting a terrifying wave of female sexual liberation into motion. With pleasure way up and crime way down, everyone is happy—that is, except for the NYPD and the stuck-up Lt. Handcock (Richard Bolla), who becomes increasingly concerned that he’s soon going to be out of a job.

A patently bizarre mix of raucous sex comedy and thoughtful social commentary, filmmaker Joel Bender’s Joy is an unexpectedly heartfelt classic that has to be seen to be believed.
