Career Bed

1969, dir. Joel M. Reed

“What Mrs. Robinson did is no comparison to what Mrs. Potter does in this film!"

A manipulative stage mother (Honey Hunter) wants nothing more than for her daughter Susan (Jennifer Welles) to become a movie star. But when she begins using her body to seduce producers, photographers, and even her own future-son-in-law to push Susan (and therefore herself) up the ladder of success, will her daughter also get pulled into her twisted machinations? Filled with jaw-droppingly acidic dialogue and powerhouse performances from its two leads, exploitation film legend Joel M. Reed’s Career Bed plays like an unhinged mix of underground theater and classical Hollywood melodrama.
